Welcome back, this is Daily Buddhism audio show number Sixty-Two recorded April 28th, 2013. My name is Brian Schell, and I am the your host for the show. You can find the text as well as all links mentioned in this program and all past episodes on the website at www.dailybuddhism.com.

Announcements:

If you aren't signed up for the email newsletter, just go to www.dailybuddhism.com and fix that oversight right now. It's free and easier than ever to sign up. Note that after the long absence, I threw out the old email list. Rather than deal with people who had forgotten about me, I decided to start over, so if you used to get the email, sign up again; it’s all fresh and new.

If you enjoy the podcasts, and the website, and the emails, and the Tweets, and the Facebook posts, then don’t forget to buy the book! My book, The Five-Minute Buddhist was recently released on Amazon, Nook, iTunes, and as a paperback. It’s essentially the “Best of Daily Buddhism.” You can get it in pretty much any format you want. Just go to http://dailybuddhism.com/book/ and follow the links. If you’ve already picked up a copy, please leave a review on whichever site you got the book from.
Please note: I’m getting the podcasts caught up from WAY back. The following posts never made it into the last podcast in 2009. These are topics from that time period. Over the coming weeks, I plan to record podcasts for these “retro-topics” until we get all caught up. All these topics are still on the website, and there is no reason whatsoever why you cannot leave your comments on them at any time. I’d love to hear what you’ve got to say!

The Buddhist nun known as Ryonen was born in 1797. She was a granddaughter of the famous Japanese warrior Shingen. Her poetic genius and alluring beauty were such that at seventeen she was serving the empress as one of the ladies of the court. Even at such a youthful age fame awaited her.

I am relatively new to Buddhism, mediation (and yoga), so you podcasts and articles are very welcome indeed.
Buddhism has helped me find my path from and out of suffering. Recently I joined a Mayahana temple, I would like to know, can I stop by any temple daytime to meditate in the temple hall, or just bow? What are usually the norms, because I would like to stop by and . . . → Read More: Temple Time

Announcements:

Do we have anything to talk about in this episode? How about my nearly three-month absence from the world of podcasting? I'm sure I mentioned back in April or May that I had gotten a new job teaching, and it seriously takes up most of my time now. That being said, it's been six months since I started doing that, and I can't let it take over every minute of my time, no matter how much I enjoy it. I need to get back into doing some of the things I used to do for fun, so here I am. I'm not going to promise to do this every single week, but I am going to put out an episode every chance I get.

As always, the Daily Buddhism Email Newsletter goes out with one topic at a time, and I save them up to do the podcast. Since it's been ages since I did the last podcast, I have a lot of newsletter material set back to podcast. The questions and articles that you are about to hear are from early July's newsletters, and the next few podcasts we'll be playing catch-up. That's OK, most of this stuff isn't going to go obsolete in our lifetime.

If you aren't signed up for the email newsletter, just go to www.dailybuddhism.com and fix that oversight right now. It's free and easier than ever to sign up.

And now let's get on with this week's show!
